Meet the Chair
James Groves, Ph.D.
Chair and Associate Professor
Welcome! Thank you for visiting the Hospitality Management Program located in historic Eckles Hall. This is a place where you can have experiences that will enrich your life and prepare you for the future.
Our programs provide the exciting opportunity to study hotel and resort management, food service management, and meeting and event management. You can learn about a variety of positions including sales, human resources, finance and operations management.
We provide high quality undergraduate and graduate instruction to help you develop excellent leadership skills and prepare for a successful professional career.
Our faculty members bring their experiences working in the hospitality industry into their classrooms. This helps the classes come alive and provides a sense of the "reality" of the industry.
We also provide you with industry connections through class speakers and student organizations. Our clubs provide you with the chance to network with industry professionals and to learn from the best. Clubs include: Hospitality Managers Association, Club Managers Association of America, Mizzou Meeting Planners and the Mizzou Barbeque Club.
Our program trains students to work as professionals in a variety of areas such as restaurants, hotels, event planning, and other hospitality organizations. Graduates from our program report that the knowledge and skills they learned while in HM have served them well in their professional lives.
We hope your studies and experiences here are as rewarding and stimulating for you as they are for us on the faculty and staff. We especially hope you will consider joining us in the fascinating study of hotel and restaurant management. Doing so will prepare you for work that makes a difference to people.
